L’école de théâtre

ecole theatre

A new theatre school is the official formation school of Le Pays de la Sagouine and the governance of this school is entrusted to Mrs Antonine Maillet.

It's after an instruction from this school that the interpreters and characters will perform on l'Île-aux-Puces.

The theatre school will be host to Le Pays de la Sagouine's theatre camps. All the kids who will participate to the camps starting this summer 2013 will receive a diploma from our School.

Auditions 2013 for la Sagouine

The school will have, this summer, auditions to form some new Sagouine - one or many. The people who will be retained to complete the formation and who will receive their diploma at the end of the process will be admitted to the Order of La Sagouine.

If you are interested in this experience, here are the steps:

  1. Inscription
The candidates have to enroll by communicating with Annik Landry by e-mail at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or by phone at (506) 743-1454. A casting photo and a short bio with contact info will be necessary for the inscription. 2. Preliminary auditions

Preliminary auditions will be on July 29, at Le Pays de la Sagouine. The jury will be made up of the author Antonine Maillet, the artistic director of Le Pays de la Sagouine Luc LeBlanc, and of l'Université de Moncton's dramatic arts' director Andréi Zaharia.

Of the group, 9 semi-finalists will be retained. A filming with Radio-Canada is expected for the 9 semi-finalists on August 7 at Radio-Canada's office in Moncton, N.-B.

  3. Public auditions
For 2 consecutive Saturdays (August 17 and 24), 4 of the 8 semi-finalists will perform before the public of l'Île-aux-Puces and before a jury made up of 4 people from the artistic community. The help of an artistic support team will be offered to the 8 semi-finalists by Le Pays de la Sagouine, accompanying the public audition with stage directors: Karène Chiasson, André Roy and Pierre Boudreau.

The selection of 3 finalists will be done by using a compilation of the public vote and by a point system granted by the jury

The votes will be recorded on Radio-Canada's website between August 10 and 25.

  4. End of Program Performance or Final Exam
On Saturday, August 31, finalists will have to offer an end of program performance before the public of l'Île-aux-Puces and before a jury made up of 5 people from the academic, political, and artistic community.

  5. Graduation
On Sunday, September 1, l'Île-aux-Puces will be rejoicing for the first-ever graduation of the theatre school. The summer theatre camp participants will receive their diploma and we will also tend to the graduation ceremony of the deserving novice-Sagouine (be it one or many).

• Dramatic arts formation is considered an asset but not necessary to submit one's application.

• The candidates must be available on the indicated dates: July 29 (pre-audition), August 7 (filming with Radio-Canada), August 10, 17, 24 (public auditions), August 31 (finale) and September 1 (graduation).

• The theatre school retains the right to restrain from giving away diplomas if the performances do not meet the quality criteria.

• The obtention of a diploma does not guarantee a job at Le Pays de la Sagouine or a possibility of playing the role of La Sagouine. Negotiations must take place later.
